Toledo and us at RecallCarty.com love our JEEP. What we at RecallCarty.com take issue with, is the fact that the voters of Toledo were not permitted to vote on the Jeep subsidy. It may even be a given that Toledo would have voted for Jeep. It was a given that Marcy Kaptur was going to get re-elected last election, yet we were still given the opportunity to vote. What Carty Finkbeiner has done with the "Jeep" project is to deny Toledoans the right to vote. City charter demands that on projects of this size, there is to be a vote. We may never know if his original estimate was a product of incompetence or intentional deception. We do know that the project is approaching $100 million (3 times the estimate). City Charter does not make exceptions to the law requiring a vote of the people on major projects. If he gets away with violating this part of theToledo City Charter, what other sections might be violated by him (or other politicians) next? As Toledo voters, we have the responsibility to enforce the Charter WE passed to put limits on what politician can and can not do. If We the voters don't require politicians to follow the laws we enacted to control them, the Charter becomes meaningless.
Carty is not being recalled because of the Jeep deal. He is being recalled because he and his office were incompetent or deceptive in their estimating. He is being recalled because he violated the Toledo City Charter and denied us our right to vote. This is a right our forefathers fought and died for and anyone who thinks that Toledoans will sit back and allow their right to vote to be taken away - is in for a BIG surprise!
